Manufactured River
In the sewage treatment process, identifying filamentous bacteria species and counting their numbers helps operators adjust the system for maximum efficiency. Filament type 0041 is frequently found in domestic sewage systems. Here are the list of characteristics for this type:
Type 0041
Type 0041 is a filamentous bacterium possessing the following characteristics:
- not branched; - immobile;
- straight/bowed filaments, occurring free in the water as well as attached to the flocs;
- filament length is variable;
- cell diameter is variable (0.6 - 1.5 µm);
- much attached growth always present in domestic plants; "clean" filaments sometimes present in industrial plants;
- sheath present;
- septa visible (if a lot of attached growth is present, only visible at the tip of the filaments);
- square cells;
- no sulphur storage;
- Gram positive;
- Neisser negative.

I wanted to make sure that all the science was correct for my project. This required me to re learn science I had snoozed through in my own academic career. Art for me is the entry way in to learning and mediating the world and so my sketching process was central to the project.

A fascinating project. You're like me, I need to know the details and background before I come to grips with the creation of my own version.
The notes in the sketchbook are invaluable tools.
Yes! And I think it makes the"blank canvas" less terrifying.
ahhh, when I went through pysiology classes years ago, I always thought 'it' was a work of art! ..and I've always thought what happens at the sewer is amazing! So, now when I see you incorporating the two...oh, WOW...my thought processes are running!
You are a rare person, PJ to appreciate sewage treatment!
Thanks for stopping by.
