Waterways Project: Spring Escape to Zion

Craig had a brilliant idea to have a little spring break fling up at Zion this week. We happily settled into our lake view room at off season rates and soaked up the only 2 sunny, warm days this week. We all feel restored!

Before we left town, I made a small concertina sketchbook with hot press wc paper. I had 9 x 2 sides and made an agreement with myself to fill it up. Since I walked every afternoon with my nerdy stool and water color kit, this was a delightful challenge. The format was 6" x 6" and I really liked the size. The concertina format however, blew apart in heavy winds. I think I'd rather use a bound book for out door work next time. I also forgot to bring my tiny travel hair spray bottle. (To spray my graphite drawings...not my hair. It makes a pretty good fixative.)

beautiful! I love these sketches. So quick, free and beachy. Thanks for the tip of using hairspray as a fixative. I think I had heard that long ago but had forgotten.

Thanks bec and the hair spray really does work well without all that toxic smell!

except if it's perfumed you have a scented drawing for quite a while! (been there and got the scented drawings :>) )

that's a lovely watercolour sketch

your PIF should be there any day now - Karen's arrived today in Wales, posted the same day, I do hope you like it.

Vivien, that's funny! My daughter uses the tooty fruity kind of hair spray...fourtunately, she forgot hers too!

I'm so excited! I'm sure I'll love the PIF!!! The mail from the UK to th e US is so much SLOWER for some reason. It seems much faster going US to UK. I'll let you know when it arrives!!Thanks so much for offering a PIF. Lovely idea!

I like the sketches a lot - both WC and the graphite ones - the format sounds like a good one too, I do like squares, but found that they weren't working for my landscape oils... keeping trying.
Sounds like a great wee break you've had... in particular with the sunshine...
yes - slowmail uk these days... but i've found it works either way - europe/ israel to uk in either direction has gotten really slow too...
