Waterways Project: Des Plaines River

Oil pastel in Cason sketchbook

I wanted to go back to the river again this weekend. The amount of rain we had really swelled the river but not really in the flood action zone. Here, I'm south of Chicago Avenue looking at the Lake Street bridge. Running parallel to the car/ pedestrian bridge is a train trestle. Lots of action on the tracks today; both with the Metra commuter trains and commercial traffic. With the warm weather following all that rain, the flowers and leaves are just beginning to open. Spring is really here at last.

Lovely painting Lindsay. Great job on the water and nice darks to show off the brightness of the water.

Lindsay - gorgeously done! From water to perspective -- beautiful! Peaceful, serene and very inviting!

Thanks Lin, Ronell and Don. I wish I haden't posted until today. I found a few mistakes in the reflections that do not make sense!!!

Great sketch, Lindsay. I have also been enjoying the info you're posting about our river. To me, it often seems to be more of a swamp in many places, and it's often high. Guess that's why it's a flood plain. Your sketch really captures that fullness of water that we often see there.

Very pretty, Lindsay! The reflections are beautiful, and lend a stillness to the painting that's very calming.

I did that with one of mine - posted too soon and then altered it!

It's going well :)

Transatlantic comparisons on our project are interesting :)

Have you tried to find your area on the new Microsoft 3D image site? I wrote about it on my blog and it's absolutely brilliant! it would be lovely to have a link to the area you painted in :)

Thanks LIsa. It looks more pond like in lots of places but I'm finding great beauty in spots.
