Yosemite Falls

A while back, I did a value sketch of this scene from one of our family reunions and it helped me see what was happening. Graphite sketches behave much like watercolor: graphite is layered like watercolor, can be used as a "wash" and with a sharp point, details teased out. I had not done much of this preparatory work earlier in my watercolor studies but I find them invaluable now.

I love the falls... Guess one of the things I miss most here in the east are the Sierras
