This weekend we celebrated Kelsey's 16th year of life. She really felt special. The company, the decorations, the gifts, the food were all her favorites.
After the festivities, she and I sat down and read through letters I had written to her on her birthdays (birth to age 5). These letters were a record of things that I knew she would not remember herself: her interests, friends, milestones of the year and mostly our delight in her as our daughter. Reading those letters to her was a wonderful experience for both of us. She said the letters sounded "just like you, Mom". She had a chance to see how cherished she was right from the start. I had a chance to remember all those baby days with her. I am going to start up the practice for her again. The 16th year letter may be very important to her when she is older.
Kelsey, we celebrate your life!! Happy Birthday dear Daughter!!

This is absolutely gorgeous! Love the loose lines of it -- and your endearing comments!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KELSEY!!
Oh, Lindsay, you and I are such similar mothers---this is an exquisite sketch, so fitting to celebrate your lovely daughter's life.
Thanks Lin and Larua, I honestly tried to "rescue" this watercolor from the trash bin when it looked so bland. Adding the line work really helped bring out the forms some more. Larua, I think it is so cool when ever you and I have these "parallel" mothering things.
this too Lindsay I think is just beautiful! would you add this and the espaliered tree to your flickr site, I'd like to them to my "favorites" please?
Oh Lindsay, what a beautiful bouqet of flowers and all in my favorite colors. This would look lovely on the wall in my bedroom! Your writing about your daughter was so poignant. My children too are all growing up way too fast!
What a sweet celebration! You are a great Mom!
This is such a lovely drawing. It was my daughter's sixteenth on March the 30th. The letter reading sounds lovely, I wish I'd thought of that 16 years ago!
